Scholarships

“Studying abroad has been a wonderful, eye-opening experience so far, and I’m very grateful for the continued support from AAJA in helping make it happen.”
– UC Berkeley’s Catherine Ho, 2007 scholarship winner, from Fudan University in China

AAJA SF is once again offering up to $10,000 in scholarships to outstanding high school and college students who live in or attend school in the Bay Area. You don’t have to be a journalism or mass communications major, but you must demonstrate serious intent to pursue a journalism career through strong work samples. Students are generally selected based on their journalistic ability (as demonstrated by their published work), commitment to journalism, sensitivity to Asian Pacific American issues, financial need and scholastic achievement.

AAJA SF awarded $8,000 in scholarships this summer to four deserving Bay Area college students interested in pursuing journalism. The four students — Alana Gomez Dong, Marnette Federis, Sonia Narang and Gerry Shih — demonstrated talent, dedication and sensitivity to Asian Pacific American issues. They represent different sectors of journalism including broadcast, multimedia and print.
