AAJA SF is teaming up with Google to host a workshop on Wednesday, Aug. 17 to teach journalists how to make the most of Google and its array of handy tools! This is a fantastic opportunity for journalists to bolster their toolbox and learn how to track down great details to make stories stronger.

Attendees must RSVP beforehand. Due to security needs at the Google campus, we won’t be able to accommodate people who have not registered in advance. Space is limited. Google will provide light refreshments.

When: 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17
Where: Google in Mountain View (specific location and directions will be given to those who RSVP)
To RSVP: Email Board Member Katherine Tam at tam.kath (at) gmail (dot) com by 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9. Please include in your email what your speciality is (multimedia, city government coverage, health coverage, etc.) and any specific Google tools that interest you or specific skills you want to learn. This will help Google get a good sense of what everyone is interested in as they prepare the workshop.

We’re celebrating summer by firing up the grill for a family-friendly picnic at Coyote Point in San Mateo!

Join us from 11a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27 for summer fun. Take in some sun. Hobnob with your fellow AAJA SFers. Gape at the 42-foot tall castle in the playground that boasts the longest enclosed slide in California. Bring your family, children and friends. We’ll supply the burgers and condiments. Please bring a side dish, dessert or munchies to share. We look forward to seeing you there!

ABOUT THE PARK: Coyote Point is a regional recreation area that offers picnicking, swimming, bicycling, jogging, boating, a science and nature museum, and the giant castle-and-dragon-themed Magic Mountain
Playground with a 42-foot tall castle atop a 5-foot hill. Magic Mountain features two play areas: one for 2 to 5 year olds and another for 5 to 12 year olds.

DIRECTIONS: If you’re coming from the north, take Highway 101 South. Take the Poplar Avenue exit. Turn right onto Humbolt until Peninsula Avenue. Turn right onto Peninsula Avenue. Go over the freeway, and then circle around and into the park. If you’re coming from the south, take Highway 101 North and take the Peninsula Avenue exit. Turn right onto Airport Boulevard. Turn left onto Coyote Point Drive to the park.

Come hear from AAJA’s first elected president and one of its most dedicated and successful journalists, Lloyd LaCuesta, at an AAJA luncheon sponsored by General Motors at the MainStreet in Motion event, 11 a.m. Saturday, May 21 at Alameda Point, 2301 Monarch St.
