If you want to get more involved with a great organization that does a
lot of good, here’s your chance!
AAJA SF is holding its fall elections for several openings on the
Board of Directors. Each seat is a two-year term that starts Jan. 1,
2012 and ends Dec. 31, 2013. The Board of Directors meets regularly to
plan activities, programs and fundraisers as well as discuss issues
relevant to the chapter and our members. All board members and
officers have a fiduciary responsibility to the chapter.
The seats up in this fall’s election are:
* Board Vice President of Broadcast: In the absence of the president,
the vice president convenes monthly board meetings and carries out
goals within budget according to the chapter bylaws. Attends monthly
board meetings. Organizes programs and events in collaboration with
the board.
* Secretary: Takes minutes at each board meeting and submits them to
the board for approval. Attends monthly board meetings. Organizes
programs and events in collaboration with the board. Carries out goals
within budget.
* Two seats for National Board Representatives: Represents the chapter
on the AAJA National Board and attends national board meetings. Keeps
chapter board abreast of discussions and decisions at the national
level. In addition, attends monthly chapter board meetings. Organizes
programs and events in collaboration with the board. Carries out goals
within budget.
* One Board Member seat: Attends monthly chapter board meetings.
Organizes programs and events in collaboration with the board. Carries
out goals within budget.
Members who are interested can declare their candidacy by sending a
brief one or two paragraph statement about why they are running for
the board to Katherine Tam at tam.kath@gmail.com by 5 p.m. Monday,
Oct. 10, 2011. Candidate statements will be included in an official
ballot issued to members in mid-October.
Candidates must be full AAJA members in good standing. Good standing
includes payment of 2011 dues. Remember that the deadline to register as a 2011 member to be eligible
to run for office or to change chapter affiliation or membership level
is Sept. 30, 2011. Only full members in good standing are
eligible to vote, but nominations of qualified candidates are accepted
from all members full, associate or student in good standing.
